John Trapp

John’s Bio

John has spent the majority of his career serving the Pre-Engineered Metal Building market. After graduating with his CET designation from NAIT, John worked as the NAB Sales Manager for Therm-all Insulation (1982 Ltd.) In 1999, Therm-all was sold to Winalta Shelter’s and with that change in leadership, John left to start Total-R Inc. with Darren Resch in 2001. Total-R flourished as the founder’s focused on the insulation knowledge and service required to support the Metal Building Industry across Western Canada in a thriving economy. Total-R was able to acquire the assets of Therm-all Insulation (western) Inc., increasing their manufacturing and distribution footprint.

In 2015, John sold his 50% of Total-R to his partner Darren, to take his family to live overseas for a sabbatical focused on wellness and family bonds. Upon his return in 2016, John was recruited to join Clark Builders and lead their Metals Division as Director for Pre-Engineered Buildings and Architectural Cladding Systems. John then ascended to VP of People and Wellness, where his passion for the people in construction, was fully realized, as he led Clark Builders Safety and HR teams, through the challenging times of 2020-2023. As a member of Clark’s Executive Leadership Team, John’s counsel was touted as the moral compass for the Executive, during his tenure.

After fulfilling his Clark duties by integrating HR and Safety with Clark’s parent company, Turner Construction, John left to continue his entrepreneurial journey, providing leadership development consulting services to the construction market. Quickly into that tenure, in July of 2024 John as asked by one Brian Impey, Founder of the Gazelle’s Group of Companies, if he would take a contract position as President, to help the company with its long term strategy and succession plans, John agreed and this is when his return to the Insulation market began. The Gazelle’s Group, Insulation Snakes division, is a manufacturer of removable and reusable pipe insulation products. With John’s passed vendor relationships, he has been able to support Insulation Snakes supply certainty, which opened the door for Trigen Insulation to emerge.

Working with his son, Rowan, as the third iteration of the Trapp family’s service to Metal Building Insulation, they bring a focus on system knowledge and providing best customer service to the Western Canadian market. John has also previously served on the Alberta Metal Building Association board of Directors, The Gazelle’s Group of Companies Board, Clark Builders Employee Share Holder Program Board and The UofA’s Integrative Health Institute board.
